Looking for an Education, Not a Degree
A Bachelor's degree can do a lot for you. Having that piece of paper can help lead to a new job or a promotion at your current job. International Academy of Design and Technology - Tampa student Darryl Ahye couldn't care less about the piece of paper, though. Relocated to the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago solely to learn filmmaking, Darryl is more concerned about the education behind his degree program. And, halfway through IADT - Tampa's Digital Movie Production program, Darryl couldn't be happier with the education he is getting. "IADT classes are teaching me the fundamentals I need to go out and succeed at whatever I want to do in the industry," Darryl says.
Starting at IADT with experience—among other things, he had filmed a music video that aired on a Trinidad and Tobago television station—but no formal education in movie production, Darryl says his first few quarters at the school were amazingly challenging yet rewarding. "I learned something new every day. Some days, I was learning so much new stuff, it was hard to remember it all." But Darryl did remember…most things at least. "From the day I arrived here, I was so happy. I came to learn and be exposed to new things, and that is exactly what is happening."
Darryl isn't just learning new things, he is learning new things that are going to help him realize his dream of one day making feature films. "I can see from my work that I am getting better and better with every project I do," he says. "I know this is my big opportunity to learn and take chances so I'm trying my hardest."
