Phil Bulone

Interior Design Department Chair Phil Bulone is passionate about creating exciting and meaningful experiences for people, whether he is designing a restaurant space, planning educational travel or teaching in the classroom.

While growing up in New York, Phil developed a keen outlook towards the power of design on people and spaces. A study abroad experience to Italy transformed Phil's aspirations and he was hooked on a career in design.

As a design student, he won Best Overall Design for the State of Florida IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Student Day 6 competition. Phil received his master's degree in Interior Design and embarked on a career which led him to work for noteworthy companies along the east coast. His field work specialty is hospitality design. Phil's experience includes complete interior design and project management for clients such as Marriott International, Hilton Hotels and multiple independent restaurant and hotel business operators. Phil currently engages in freelance work in addition to his department chair role.

Phil has been balancing educational leadership with professional practice since the start of his career. Upon graduation, he served as an adjunct instructor in the interior design programs at Lynn University, Boca Raton and Palm Beach Community College. Phil was called to education again when he relocated to Tampa in 2002. He began teaching at the Academy as a full-time faculty member and was quickly recognized for his effectiveness in and out of the classroom. He was promoted to department chair in 2006. Phil also understands the value of participation in professional organizations and community service. He currently serves as the national Knowledge Advisor for IIDA.
